So, you're doing your first SCUBA Diving course .... what can you expect ?
The PADI Open Water Diver Course (PADI Junior Open Water Diver Course for under 15s) combines self-study, using a multimedia CD and/or a workbook and video (we like the workbook, because you can make your own notes in the margins). You study at home, in your own time, at your own pace - theres no pressure. And we can do home visits for theory - ask us for details.
There are just five chapters, or modules. Each module contains self-assessment quizzes and reviews for you to check that you have understood the points that are being made. At the end of each module, there is a "knowledge review" quiz, which you complete and bring to the practical sessions. Your Instructor will review these with you and go through and explain any areas where you have any doubts or difficulties.

You'll make five dives in the heated pool. We call these "Confined Water Dives". During each dive, your Instructor will explain and demonstrate a skill, and then ask you to copy. Its as simple as that. Once you have mastered one skill, we'll move on to the next.
Theres a final quiz for each module, and a multiple-choice exam which covers all of the modules. You'll need to score 75% to pass the theory part of the course. But dont worry!! If you do get any questions wrong, we'll go over these together in detail and ask you to take a second quiz or exam.
The idea is not to put you through the mill of exams, it is to ensure that you've grasped the theory. We want to help to you gain that understanding.
Leybourne Lakes
You'll make four dives in a lake. We call these "Open Water Dives".
You'll be demonstrating that you can do all of the skills you've mastered in the pool.
And you'll get a tremendous feeling of achievement and satisfaction when you emerge from your final dive as an Open Water Diver !! You'll be qualified to dive down to 18m (12m if aged under 15). The course is suitable for children - the minimum age is 10.
You dont need to be an athelete - you just need to be reasonably fit, able to swim, and confident in the water.
Don't forget that if you want to do the "indoor bits" - the theory and pool sessions - in the UK, and then jet off to somewhere exotic and blue to complete your open water dives "the outdoor bits" on holiday, take a look at the Holiday Referral Course !
