So what's involved ?

Each SCUBA-taster candidate will be given a safety briefing and kitted out with mask, snorkel, fins and SCUBA equipment.   "SCUBA" stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.   You will learn how scuba equipment works, and be able to breathe on SCUBA while standing up in the shallow end of the pool.   You will learn about the effects of water pressure and how to equalise the pressure in your ears.   You will learn how to fin efficiently underwater.   You will make a SCUBA dive, accompanied on a one-to-one basis, with the equipment being operated and adjusted for you, swimming underwater all the way from the shallow end to the deep end of the pool and back again while breathing on SCUBA.

 

Each Snorkelling-taster candidate will be given a safety briefing and kitted out with mask, snorkel and fins.   You will be taught how to breathe through and how to clear a snorkel, and how to fin effectively on the surface, and then surface-snorkel for up to two lengths of the main pool, accompanied on a one-to-one basis.

 

Candidates must be in good health, able to swim, and confident in the water.

 

Candidates must obtain and complete a registration form, with the appropriate signature(s). 

 

Candidates must bring their normal swimming costume and towel.

 

On arrival, candidates should get changed and bring their completed registration form to the poolside, between 1pm and 6pm

 

The taster sessions will be offered on a first-come, first served basis.   Candidates must be prepared to wait patiently to take their turn.
