Invicta Divers SCUBA Diving School Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. Do I need to be able to swim to SCUBA Dive ?

A. Yes, you do.   Its not so much the mechanical swimming actions, but the ability to be calm and confident and keep yourself safe in the water.   In fact, with SCUBA, you dont use your upper body to propel yourself along, as you do with swimming, you just use your legs and fins, so the style is quite different.   You wear fins to make it easier, and to increase your speed and distance.

In SCUBA Diving, we are not interested in speed or style when it comes to swimming; only with safety.

With most non-swimmers, it isn't the action but the breathing that puts them off swimming.   SCUBA can actually give you greater confidence about being in (and under) the water, and contribute towards your swimming confidence, too, so they both go hand in hand.

If you are not able to swim, dont be worried or embarrassed.   We can put you in touch with swimming Instructors who specialise in teaching adults to swim, and who specialise in teaching children to swim.
