The PADI Divemaster Internship Course Invicta Divers Price: £ 299
So, you are a
Rescue Diver
about to take the plunge and enlist as a PADI Divemaster Trainee - the first rung on the PADI Professionals ladder. It is a significant step, and an important change to the way you think about SCUBA Diving.
The Role
As a Divemaster, you will have achieved a level of competence that enables you to dive "on automatic" and devote the time that allows you, above and below water, to the divers in your care. You will be a role model, both for qualified and for student divers to emulate, and they will respect you for your professional manner and exemplary diving standards.
You will become a Certified Assistant - a coach - qualified to assist Instructors on courses. While not an Instructor yourself, this is also valuable experience for you if you do intend to progress to Instructor yourself. Being a PADI-Pro is every bit as much about People as it is about Diving. You will be relied upon to assist with logistics on the surface and underwater, and be able to give one-to-one support to students who need additional help to master individual skills. You will be a vital link between Student and Instructor, trusted by both parties.
You will be qualified to re-validate certified divers who are out of practice, by performing SCUBA Reviews with them, and you will be qualified to lead groups of certified divers in open water, always respecting their experience and competences, qualifications and limits.
And, as a qualified Divemaster, you can go on to become certified to conduct Try Dives and Discover SCUBA programmes yourself - thats a huge achievement and an immense position of trust, as you will be responsible for being the person to introduce SCUBA Diving to people who have never dived before, and be an ambassador for the sport and for PADI !!
Do you remember your first SCUBA experience ?
What's involved in the course ?
You'll be entering an Internship - like an apprenticeship - which combines academic self-study, formal lectures, pool and open water practice and, when you're ready, being let loose on real live students, to learn how to assist your Instructor in the delivery of diving courses, both on the surface and underwater.
Its a demanding programme: You'll sit 8 (yes, eight!!) exams, and you'll be scored on the quality of your practical waterskills and exercises.
You'll need to have logged an absolute minimum of 20 dives by the time you enter your Internship and at least 60 by the time you qualify, including night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation. You'll show that you can swim 400m unaided, 800m with mask, snorkel and fins, float unaided for 15-minutes, and perform a 100m tired-diver tow. You'll need to undertake a diving medical (and/or an HSE medical to practise as a Divemaster in the UK). The minimim age is 18.
At the end of all of this, you'll have earned your stripes and can be proud to call yourself a PADI Professional.
The next step up from Divemaster is to become an Assistant Instructor
Young Leader / Junior Divemaster Prep Internship Invicta Divers Price: £ 239
As a Rescue Diver aged under 18, Invicta Divers can offer you a Young Leader / Junior Divemaster Prep Internship.
With your Instructor, you'll learn the same theory and practise and develop the same skills as a Divemaster Trainee (above), in fact you'll be able to do everything that a Divemaster Trainee does. The only difference is that you'll have an adult supervisor guiding you.
As soon as you turn 18 - maybe even on your 18th birthday - you will be able to complete your practical assessment exercises and sit your exams to qualify you as a full PADI Divemaster in double-quick time !
