CLUB SOCIAL MEETINGS - SUNDAY AFTERNOONS
SUNDAY AFTERNOONS AT THE BLACK LION FAMILY PUB
After our regular Sunday pool sessions at the Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham, we pop across the road to the Black Lion Family Pub (opposite the Leisure Centre car park gates in Mill Road).
We'll normally aim to arrive there at about 13:30, but remember we could still be packing up in the Leisure Centre so, if we're not there, check to see if we are running a bit late.
The Black Lion is a family pub, children-friendly from toddlers upwards to oldies.
There is a huge enclosed garden to play in at the rear, and there is an indoors games room with a pool table. There are plasma screens in the bar areas, which are usually tuned in to sports channels.
We have rooms above the pub (which overlook the garden) which are away from the hustle and bustle of the bar area (particularly when someone scores a goal !).
Here we enjoy lunch together and have a chat and optional theory sessions in the afternoon. Its an opportunity to see how everyone is getting on, and an opportunity to conspire to plan some dives.
The Black Lion does a cracking Sunday Roast for £5.45 (choose from Lamb, Pork or Beef). A Vegetarian option is also on offer and Chicken or Turkey is sometimes also available. The portions are satisfyingly generous.
They also do those rich sticky sweety deserts - the kind that send you to sleep on a Sunday afternoon !
So if you are coming for the morning pool session, why not pop along for lunch and a chat too ? Invite your family for a little outing and let someone else do the Sunday cooking and washing up for you for a change.
Even if you don't come to the pool in the morning, you're welcome to pop in for lunch, or drop in anytime in the afternoon to say hello and have a chat, a game of pool or kick a football round in the garden.
If you are after feeding, they stop taking orders for food after about 2:30 (or when they run out - and we are really greedy !!)
We'll normally be leaving the pub sometime between 17:00 and 18:00 (sometimes later), depending upon who wants to do what.
FAQs
Q: I'm not 18, am I allowed to go in a pub ?
A: Yes, as long as we are there.
We dont hang out in the bar - we'll be in our rooms upstairs eating or talking (or there's the games room or garden).
Of course, you wont be served alcohol but there is a wide selection of J2Os, coke, juices and soft drinks on offer.
Q: Isn't a pub smoky ?
A: No. From July 1st 2007, it has become illegal for people to smoke in enclosed public places like pubs and restaurants.
In any case, we go upstairs which is well ventilated with windows and electric vents.

cant get up in the mornings,
so I cant make it to the pool. Can I still come in the afternoon ?
A: Absolutely yes.
Roll up whenever you're ready and just pop in and say hello.
Check the club calendar before you set out, though, just to make sure we will be there that day.
And encourage your family and friends to come along too !
