CGSB SCUBA Taster Sessions - Your Help Please !!

Following on from the Medway Mile Day, we are holding a CGSB SCUBA Taster Session on Sunday September 28th.    If you have non-diver friends at school ask them if they would like to come along and try it out for themselves.    Sessions will be on a first-come, first-served basis on Sunday morning between 07:30 and 12:00.   The earlier people come, the longer the taster session they are likely to have !!
We also need help that day - by the pool and in the water ... Are you prepared to help ?   Hopefully you are so please get in touch to confirm !

Medway Mile Day - Results

A Big "Thank You" to everyone who helped at the Medway Mile Day.   We managed to give SCUBA Diving Tasters to 58 people and a number of Snorkelling Tasters too.
Exhausting !!

25th July 2008 Medway Mile Day - Volunteers needed

On Sunday 25th of July there will be a "Medway Mile" day to run a mile (funnily enough, in Medway!).   While this is taking place, there will be a sports "open day" at the Black Lion Leisure Centre to encourage people into spoirts and fitness.   We will be offering free SCUBA Tasters to all comers and also having a display stand in the main hall to encourage people to to try SCUBA Diving.   Would you like to help ?   We are looking for volunteers to help man the stand and to help beside the pool and in the water.

Please let us know if you can help !!

November 2007 Prizegiving

Two club members were presented with certificates at a prizegiving held at the school in November.

Congratulations to:-

James Hyde and Jack Burgess - who qualified as PADI Advanced Open Water Divers.
They are both now qualified to dive down to 30 metres, worldwide.

In addition, Jack Burgess received a certificate as an Emergency First Responder - qualified to operate an Automated External Defibrillator (equipment to restart a stopped heart or rephase a heart which is not beating in rhythm) and can also administer CPR, emergency oxygen and can administer first aid.

Bye Bye to Mr. Williams and Hello to Miss Wilson

We would like to say a big thank you to Mr. Williams who has left Chatham Grammar School for Boys to take up a new post teaching Geography at Borden Grammar School in Sittingbourne.   Mr. Williams has coordinated the CGSB SCUBA Club activities from the school side for the past three years, and has introduced many of the current members.
Taking up the reins is Miss Wilson, who teaches Science at CGSB.   Miss Wilson is a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

Breaking News - Daring Raid

In the days leading up to Christmas, in a sophisticated and daring raid with military precision, a devious gang of thieves broke into the club noticeboard in the lower corridor of the Black Lion Leisure Centre.   Jemmying open the locks on the doors, they pulled an Invicta Divers T-shirt from the display (well, you have to credit them with good taste, if no morals) and made a dash for the underworld.
Interpol was notified and ports and airports alerted.   Heathrow was closed for three days under the pretext of thick fog, while baggage was secretly searched, but no sign of the T-shirt was found.
The public are advised to be on the alert, and Trading Standards are warning of counterfeit Invicta Divers T-shirts flooding the market.

November 2006 Prizegiving

Four club members were presented with certificates at the school prizegiving at the Central Theatre in November.

Congratuulations to:-

Lewis Hicks-Pattison and Jack Williams - who qualified as PADI Junior Open Water Divers
James Huane - who qualified as a PADI Open Water Diver
James Dobberson - who qualified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver while on a club trip to the Red Sea

It didn't all go to plan, though.   The certificates were stashed away in a box, and Jack gave a grin as he walked off stage with all of them.   Mr.  Williams sorted things out in the wings.

Jack and JamesH were all set to give a snazzy multimedia powerpoint presentation to the gathered throngs ..... unfortunately they were let down by the fellows running the IT, and the pair were left stranded on stage as it all went horribly wrong.   So if you were there and wondered what was going wrong, it wasn't their fault !!

Children in Need Appeal

Another disappointment was that, after last year's televised event that a lot of you took part in, the Black Lion decided not to host any special Children in Need events this year, so we weren't able to get pool time to stage the SCUBA tasters we've done for the last two years' appeals.
We hope that they will be back on next year.    Its a fun evening for a good cause.

Our next taster sessions will be in Spring for the "MIXIT" teen activities event.   We hope you'll be able to help !
